Windows Replacement - Grand Island
Project Overview
The Federal Building located at 203 West 2nd Street, Grand Island, Nebraska; was constructed between 1908-10 as a Federal Post Office and Courthouse. The original building is a two story, +/-14,200 square foot structure with an accessible storage room and office on a mezzanine level. In 1934, an addition was built adjoining the West side of the original structure. Several projects took place in recent years including restoration of front lobby, replacement of outdated steam heating system and restoration of east and north entrances of the building. The new heating system and restored entrances provided some of the savings in energy usage in this building however without window replacement any further attempt to save energy could not be successful. Some of the 'drafty windows' are reasons of complaints from tenants during cold winter months. These windows will have an impact on the perimeter heating system that needs to run at higher temperatures and will impact the new cooling system that was designed and will be installed in 2010.
